Expectations

Expectations –

It is reasonable to expect the sun to rise each morning and set each night. It is natural to expect that summer will follow spring and winter will follow autumn.

These phenomena follow the laws of nature and we, therefore, have every right to have expectations of them. These laws are fixed and immutable and unless there is some cataclysm, we can count on them.

Expectations are reasonable for us to have, our expectations in and of themselves are not necessarily a bad thing. It is healthy to have certain agreed upon expectations of people, the key words being “agreed upon”. The problem is; that things, people, and situations often change and are not subject to any natural law, thereby making them mutable rather than fixed.

Likewise, if your agreements are not clear, you could be expecting something the other person did not know they agreed to.

It becomes vital that you look deeply into what happens within you when someone does not meet your expectations.

    • Was it the person that let you down?
    • Was it your expectation of that person that let you down?
    • Were you attached to your expectation?

Are your expectations being met? Change the process!
