The Magic Pause Becomes a Collection of Magical Moments –

Once you become aware, doing the work becomes the challenge

No matter how many self-help books you have read, seminars you have attended or counseling sessions you have had, the application of new concepts, or, new ways of being into your life becomes the challenge; this is the “work”.   No matter how much you “know” the path you also know that there is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

Conceptually and intuitively, we understand our patterns, or, our challenges in life, we even know when we are derailed from our path and yet we still have roadblocks when it comes to applying our knowledge and deeper understanding.

Becoming aware of your patterns is huge, it is perhaps the biggest step you can make toward your growth and although there is great power in owning them, your patterns will stay your patterns until you do “the work”.

The hardest thing to do is to recognize when you are about to revert back into your pattern, or when you are actually in the pattern.  Your ego will make it very difficult for you to see what is happening and will, in fact, set you on a course of self-destruction.  It is through awareness and practice that you will be able to recognize when you are slipping into the old ways and this will take time, patience and self-observation.

You have to have presence of mind in order to recognize when you are slipping.  This is not easy, I won’t lie.  It is so difficult to be present in every moment of every day and with practice you can get better at it.  This involves putting yourself in check constantly, ask yourself questions like “Will this comment, behavior or action insight love or fear?”  “If I were the other person, how would I want to hear this?”  “What would be the consequences if I….”, “Am I standing in my power or am I standing on a pile of shit?”

There have been times when I have reverted back into my pattern knowing full well that I had done so.  I could hear my higher self recognize my transgression, knowing what had happened and yet….my ego was so strong and so cunning that I ignored my inner wisdom and continued down the old pattern path, the whole time my higher self was nagging at me…..how do I stop this?  How am I going to get out of this?  How come I went there anyway?  The fact is that we are all human, we stumble, we fall.   Perfection is an ideal and unfortunately, not a reality;  for this reason I chose to surround myself with others who are on a similar path, those who are committed to doing the work.

When I am surrounded by like minded people, I have the tendency to stay in the higher vibration I strive to attain.  If I cannot always be in my highest vibration all the time, I can be sure that someone around me is probably there and can nudge me back on track.  This is why it is so important to share this work with the people in your life that you care about.

It is exponentially easier to figure out someone else’s problems with the path than it is your own, simply because being on the outside of a situation means having no emotional attachment to the issue.  We can see so much more clearer when we are void of emotional attachment.  Here is where having friends who are also doing the work are a must.  It is also a good idea to train yourself to step outside of yourself as you look at yourself.  Observing yourself in the third person gives you space and detachment needed to see the forest for the trees.  Third person observation is best to employ when you feel yourself getting emotionally charged by something, when you take the magic pause, take a step away and become the third person.

I have talked a bit about the magic pause as a way to neutralize yourself when you feel emotionally charged, it is simply stopping yourself from reacting and giving yourself time to think and be.  Most times taking that magic pause is a challenge because you are fighting your instinct to react, it does not feel natural to just “be” when you are emotionally charged.  Once you get the hang of it, magic pauses become moments to live for, they are the manifestation of your growth and progress.  The next step, then, is to step outside so that you can remain neutral.  You will no longer be an emotional hostage to people and experiences surrounding you and clearly on the path to your highest self.
